Oct.5-8, 2006, Tapinac Sports Complex

Mahigit kumulang 600 na batang scouts mula sa 28 na pampubliko at pampribadong elementary at high scools sa lungsod ang lumahok sa ginanap na 2006 Council Urban Jamborette ng Boy Scouts sa Olongapo City noong ika-5-8 ng Oktubre sa East Tapinac Oval Field. Ang nasabing 3 araw na camping activity na may temang “Isang Mundo, Isang Pangako” ay pinangasiwaan ng Boy Scouts of the Philippines, Department of Education at City Mayor’s Office.

“Ibinigay lahat ni Mayor Bong Gordon ang pangangailangan namin. Mula sa streamers, tents, hanggang sa seguridad ng camping area ay inalalayan kami ni Mayor Gordon,” wika ni Mario Esquillo, isa sa mga coordinators ng nasabing Jamboree. Naging malaki rin ang pasasalamat ng mga organizers ng jamborette kay First Lady Anne Marie Gordon, Chairperson ng City Fiesta Executive Committee sa pansamantalang pagkatigil ng pagtatayo ng City Fiesta Carnival sa East tapinac Oval Field upang pagbigyan muna ang camping ng boy scouts.

Iba’t-ibang aktibidades naman ang itinuro sa mga kabataang scouts na dumalo kaugnay na rin ng adhikain ni Mayor James Gordon na pangalagaan at turuan ang mga kabataan. Kabilang sa mga naging paksa sa camping lecture ang turismo at kultura, kalusugan at kalinisan , kabuhayan at emergency preparedness na tinalakay ng iba’t-ibang departamento ng pamahalaang panglungsod. Tinuruan din ang mga batang scouts ng iba’t-ibang kasanayan tulad ng knot-tying, tent fixing, scouts’basic signals, first-aid at swimming.

Suportado naman ng mga baranggay na malapit sa camp site ang kaligtasan ng mga participants. Nagpalitan ng pagbabantay ang Brgy. Asinan, Kalalake, Pag-asa, at East Tapinac . Sa atas ni Mayor Gordon, dumadalaw rin si Kagawad Edwin Piano kada-gabi sa camp area upang maging representante ng pamahalaang panglungsod sa mga aktibidades ng boy scouts.

Ipinasyal din sa anim na barangay- East Tapinac/West Tapinac, Pag-asa, New Cabalan, Sta. Rita at East Bajac-Bajac ang mga scouts upang magkaroon sila ng community immersion experience at turuang magserbisyo sa mamamayan. Naging closing activity naman ng naturang jamboree ang pagsali sa Alay Lakad noong ika-8 ng Oktubre kung saan umabot sa 800 scouts ang lumahok.

Samantala, nagpapasalamat naman ang mga batang scouts at organizers ng jamboree sa suporta ng mga departamento ng lokal na pamahalaan katulad ng Mayor’s Office, City Health Department, PUD, ESMO at mga baranggay sa matagumpay na pagkaganap ng boy scouts’ jamboree.
